Our name is inspired by the famed Driftless Area of southwestern Wisconsin, a region known for its unique landscapes and stories.

Our Values

At Driftless Times Media, we believe in open-minded exploration of the obscure and extraordinary. We are committed to inclusivity and stand firmly against hate, authoritarianism and supremacist ideologies.

Submit to Driftless Times

We welcome essays, feature stories, personal reflections and unusual narratives rooted in place, history, folklore or the overlooked dimensions of everyday life. We also consider speculative essays — critical or interpretive works that engage with uncertainty, cultural patterns or phenomena not easily explained. Submissions should be grounded in thoughtful inquiry and maintain a respectful relationship with factual reality, even when exploring its edges.

If you are interested in contributing, please see our submission guidelines here.

About Our Founder

A Wisconsin native with a lifelong fascination for folklore, the unknown and strange history, Walker Jaroch has always loved a good story. From growing up in libraries to building a successful career in editing and journalism, their journey has focused on uncovering the narratives that shape our world. After a corporate downsizing left them jobless, Jaroch founded Driftless Times Media as a passion project to explore the topics they love while honing their craft. When they’re not researching and writing, Jaroch enjoys hiking, attending concerts and rooting for the Chicago Bears. They live with their wife and hedgehog, Vern, in southern Wisconsin.
